Today, we present “Iduns långdans” (‘Idun’s long dance’) as a first glimpse into “Glysisvallur” – the debut offering from Bards of Skaði. This new music project features Swedish folk musicians Thomas von Wachenfeldt and Göran Månsson and is set for release by Nordvis on November 24, 2023.

The composition is dedicated to Thomas' daughter, whose birth coincided with the blossoming of the apple trees. Therefore, she was given the name Idun, in homage to the Norse goddess associated with youth and the guardian of the divine golden apples.
This long dance – which is an ancient Nordic traditional dance – draws its inspiration from both older Scandinavian folk music and European medieval music, with an arrangement inspired by Renaissance polyphonic techniques. The tune is materialised through alto and soprano recorders, baroque violins, viola, viola da gamba, trombones, classical guitar, lute and percussion.
